Image Backup
For commercial remote backup service providers, image backup poses some unique challenges and rewards. Client companies that work with graphic programs such as CAD/AutoCAD, Quark, Photoshop, and other programs, can create large volumes of image backup files in a day’s work. Frequently, the need to store many versions of files arises - they may need to bring a different version of an image back up for a variety of reasons.
Image files tend to be large, and to resist compression, making them one of the more difficult file types to work with using any backup product. If the image backup software you use to back these files up doesn’t support compression, moving these files across even the fastest of internet connections can prove frustratingly slow. Thankfully, most remote backup software products do contain an element of compression and the best couple this compression with bit-level image backup for these files.
Such is the case with RBackup Remote Backup software from Remote Backup Systems. Our software handles both bit-level backups of image backup files, and compresses these images using our proprietary compression algorithm. Further, the software can be configured to retain any number of image backup versions, and even to retain uniquely-named files in a different way than it handles redundant versions of the same file.
Image backup doesn’t have to be problematic. While it is true that images, generally speaking, are large and resist compression, software programs are getting ‘smarter’ about the way they handle the image backup files. If you have an image backup challenge on your plate, talk to the reps or techs at RBS - we are standing by to discuss your goals.
