RBackup Version 10 is the latest version of our industry-defining Online Backup software platform. Version 10 has been re-engineered with the future in mind. Behind the scenes of the world's most popular online backup software is a newly-redesigned framework that can take advantage of the best features of today's Windows operating systems, with a concentration on extensibility and scalability to thousands of clients per Server.

Version 10.1.0 (PUBLIC)
Release Date: 10/30/2008

New Feature: Restore From Disk The new Restore From Disk feature is built into the RBS Manager. It allows client files to be easily restored at the RBS Server. Right-click a client account to see the new menu choice. Service Provider must know the client's encryption method and key, or have access to the client's Key File.

New Open Files Agent (OFA) updated to version 4.1.233.0 - This fixes a compatibility problem with Windows Server 2003 R2 and various network issues. It also solves a compatibility problem with Active Sync.

Server licensing update Solves an intermittent issue where the RBS Server would at times fail at start with "License count exceeded" error after a hard reboot.

Version 10.0.8 (BETA)
Release Date: 09/08/2008

Modified Date/Time The client uses an API to retrieve the modified date/time value from files during file selection/scanning. This release fixes a problem where the API failed intermittently when the pathname exceeded 100 or more characters.

Updated Compression DLL This solves an intermittent issue with compression of files that were opened for writing non-exclusively by other applications.

New Feature: Native File Size The User Quota and Disk Resources report in the RBS Manager now include Native File Size.

Changes made to Email Notifications Fixed an issue where Over Quota Email would sometimes fail when connecting to database.

Server LanPrefix Fixed a local network issue. When LanPrefix (registry key) was set to 192;10;172, and the Client was running within the same subnet as the Server, the Server sometimes failed to send proper responses back to client.

Version 10.0.4-V.10.0.7 (BETA)
Release Date: 07/16/2008

Backup Window Elapsed Time Fixed an issue where the Client software could improperly calculate elapsed time for the Backup Window.

Registration Errors on Exchange and Restore modules Updated the Client installer to fix intermittent registration issues in Exchange and Restore modules.

Restore Interface Timeout Changed the "resume" logic to correct a timeout problem with the Restore interface.

Updated the Client/Server Login Protocol Changes were made to the login encryption protocol (RBS Server) to make it more reliable.

(New Feature) Stop purging files when network drives are removed. This feature was added because some customers have unreliable or part-time connections to network drives that might or might not be present at backup time. We added this feature to allow greater control over how this affects the file retention protocol.

This feature is controlled by the Registry Key - PDDriveCheck. Default value is Zero.

0 - the client will delete files if it’s not present. It will not check for the Drives.
1 - the client will only check for Remote Drives before deleting a file.
2 - the client will check for Remote and Removable Drives before deleting a file.
3 - the client will check for Remote, Removable and Local drives before deleting a file.

(New Feature) To inhibit automatically moving the Bit Backup Reference Path to C:\Temp if BitBackup Reference Path becomes unavailable The Registry key BitBackupPathFailure controls this feature. Default value is False.

True - If the Backup Type is BitBackup and the BitBackup Temp. path is not available during the backup, the backup will be stopped and logged in the local log file.

False - Default behavior (Changes the BitBackup Temp. path to C:\Temp\rbackup and continues the backup).

Missed Backup Updates Modifications were made to Enotify.exe (for Missed Backup Notifications) to make it more reliable.

Version 10.0.4

New Restore Interface - Much simpler, far more intuitive.

Exchange Agent: a) Exchange 2007 is now supported. b) Enhancements done to detect a full exchange backup and run incrementals.

New Open Files Agent: Replaced the old Open Files Agent with a new one which is now compatible with all versions of Windows, from Windows 2000 to the latest. The new OFA includes support for Domain Controllers, Vista and 64-bit OS. Please note: The OFA can back up files only on the local computer. It will not allow the backup of open files across the network. Install a copy of RBackup on each computer that requires the OFA to handle open files.

Windows 2008 Server is now supported by both the RBackup Client and Server.

Enhancements were done for File Transfer Verification.

New Feature: Purge If Deleted - When this option is selected, any file that is deleted from the client system automatically gets purged from the server, as long as it qualifies for purge based on the Retention settings. Otherwise, it will keep this file on the server forever - because of the 'Keep Latest Version' option.

How it works: After every backup session, when the client runs its purge operations, a new check is made to see if the file exists locally. If the local file is not present, and it qualifies for purge, the client then deletes/purges it off the server.

This option is under the advanced admin options on the Schedule interface.

RBS Client now accounts automatically for Daylight Savings Time.

Universal time format is now being stored in the %session$info.ini file.

Updated interface with Windows Task Scheduler.

Fixed DLL Sharing violation issues when launching multiple scheduled task backups starting at the same time. (ERROR - "DLL Sharing Violation. This program cannot access a critical DLL because it is single-use and in use by another program.")

Vista fixes: a) Fixed looping of directory junctions during initial scan. b) looping display of directory junctions is fixed in the client interface.

When a backup encounters Warnings (WARN: File/folder cannot be accessed) – these are now reported both in the logs and also via Enotify Notifications. Warnings also include exceptions that are thrown by built-in agents (i.e Exchange, SQL, AD/SS)

Changed the Menu option name from 'Files' to 'BackupSet’

Delete backup set - changed text to better explain the actions available on the confirmation message box.

Fixed: Changing temp directory maked plugins backup run more than once.

Made the Purge process faster. Made changes to 'MaxSyncTransactions' to make this faster.

Added a Free Space Threshold - (Free storage monitor to check if free space gets to a certain point, then clean close the backup and note in log) - Done.

This is a new Registry Key called "FreeSpaceThreshold" under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Quantum Tech, Inc.\Remote Backup\Settings The value is in MB. Default if no key is present is set to 300 MB.

%session$info.ini records Exception as "Backup was Stopped due to DiskSpace limitations" When the threshold is reached, the above are written - the current batch is completely transfered (or the files already prepared in a batch), then the client syncs, transfers the catalog and exits cleanly.

Change the behavior of "BackupSet: New" Vs "BackupSet: SaveAs" option. When you select New to create a new backup job - it should now load the set WITHOUT any File Selections like a Blank Set. If you want to clone an existing set, use 'SaveAs' option.

During Disaster Recovery, if the temp path locations defined in the backup.mdb file are not present or cannot be accessed - the client would sometimes repeat the question "New Registration Or Disaster Recovery" Now, if the temp paths do not exist, the client creates and assigns its temp locations per the 'ClientDB' registry value. So, if ClientDB points to F:\Program Files\Remote Backup.. then, the paths for temp will be created as F:\Temp... with a warning in the sessionlog.

Added a new feature called ‘Backup Window’: By enabling the following registry key to True, the Attempt Window will now act as an actual backup window (only for scheduled backups). When the Elapsed time of the backup session exceeds the window, it stops the backup. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Quantum Tech, Inc.\Remote Backup\Settings: “SetWindow”

Re-enable the old estimator with a registry key. Set the following key to True. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Quantum Tech, Inc.\Remote Backup\Settings: “ShowEstimator”

Temp Path – After doing a DR, if the Temp path location retrieved by the recovered database could not be accessed, it would go back to New Registration. This has now been corrected to redirect the Temp to the local drive, if the path defined in the catalog is not accessible.

RBackup Server

Added upgrades to support the SQL PlugIn for the Server (a separate product).

Added an adjustable buffer size for Restore. Increasing the buffer size will increase the speed of transfers during Restores.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Quantum Tech, Inc.\RBSServer\Settings: “BufferSize” – REG_SZ – “32767” (Default is 32767. Acceptable range is the limit of Long data type i.e. 2147483647)

Added extra error checking to better recover from an accidental disconnect after transferring a file, to be able to resume in a higher percentage of cases.

Upgrades to Email Notifications:

Corrects false-positives for missed notifications for Weekly Schedules.

Added a third tab for viewing the Enotify Log/Summary of Notifications.

Added a New User Notification, sent whan a new user signs up using the ARS or the Registratio Wizard.

Inhibited sending notifications for User Accounts that are suspended.

Added new Macros for the Subject line:

%F - First Name
%L - Last Name
%U - Username
%E - Email
%A - Account Group
%C - Company
%T - Trial Account

You can modify the Subject line using the Enotify interface and include the above macros. The corresponding text/value of the macro will be replaced in the email subject.

Examples for usage: (For New User Notification)
- Subject line: "Please read your Backup welcome mesage. FirstName: %F, LastName: %L"
- Subject line: "Please read your Backup welcome mesage. Username: (%U), Account: (%A)"

RBS Manager

Fixed incorrect display of backup file sizes with files greater than 2GB.

Corrected Disk Resources report for backups greater than 2.14 GB.

New ‘search’ feature under Tools on Manager to search for user accounts. Makes finding users much quicker for large user counts, 250 up to thousands.
