GeeksForRelief.com Provides Shelter from the Storms, Extends Free Remote Data Backup Services in Hurricane Zones
Memphis, TN. – July 5, 2006
A consortium of independent online data backup service providers has joined together to form www.geeksforrelief.com, and today announced the extension of free backup services to businesses and households in hurricane-prone areas.
The service, which is provided free of charge during hurricane season, is available to all computer users located in coastal communities throughout the Southeastern and Atlantic United States.
Geeks for Relief are comprised of seasoned professional data backup companies with data centers located throughout the U.S., many whom also specialize in other computer and technology services. Current Geeks for Relief member companies include:
SIDLink - Las Vegas, NV; Remote Backup of Rochester - Rochester, NY; Guardian IT Services - Port Charlotte, FL; Dr. Backup, LLC. - Laurel, MD; Lambert Technology Solutions - Naperville, IL;
Computer Doc Backup - Matthews, NC; Global Continuum - St. Cloud, MN; Acme Data, LLC - Oxford, Michigan; Flickertronics - St. Augustine, FL; and Data Vault Corp. - Bowie, MD
These companies normally charge a recurring monthly fee for remote data backup services. As part of this program, the services will provide from 2 Gigabytes to 10 Gigabytes of free online backup space to those in the affected areas for 120 days after the individual or organization activates the service.
“In light of last year’s violent storms and related data losses, our licensees felt it was important to provide free backup services to unprotected businesses and households along the U.S. Gulf Coast and Eastern Seaboard”, commented Tommy Gardner, GeeksForRelief.com Program Coordinator. “By offering free online data backup services to those in need during hurricane season, we collectively hope to spare many businesses and individuals the trauma, cost, and inconvenience associated with losing valuable computer data.”
