This article will walk you through checking your Registration Wizard if it is not functioning correctly.
If the Registration Wizard is not showing up in your server, check that your server can accept connections successfully with the Online Server Tester at this link:
http://remote-backup.com/support/testrbs.htm
If your server passes the test with two green checkmarks, your server’s router and firewall are configured correctly.
1) Check that “Use RBS Registrar” is checked in Tools -> Properties -> Manager Preferences.
2) Check that “Disable Registration Wizard” is not checked in Tools -> Client Wizard Configuration
For the following tests, change the log level in the RBS Manger to verbose by going to Tools -> Properties -> Manager Preferences.
On the RBS Server computer, check the file C:\Program Files\RBS Server\Client\rbackup.reg and open it in notepad. The last two parameters are “RegPass” and “RegUser” with hexadecimal values. On the Remote Backup client computer, check the following registry branch’s “RegPass” and “RegUser” keys and make sure they are the same as those on the RBS Server machine:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Quantum Tech, Inc.\Remote Backup\Wizard
If these two do not match, change the client’s registry to the correct values according to the rbackup.reg file. If this still doesn’t register the Registration Wizard, check the C:\Program Files\Remote Backup\rbRegWiz.log file from the client computer and the verbose server audit log will provide insight on what the issue may be.
*If the client is not showing up on your server, run the following command from the command prompt to see if the client can reach your server:
telnet [server IP] [command port]
If this DOES NOT return a “Welcome to RBS Server” message, then this client cannot reach your server.
If this DOES return a “Welcome to RBS Server” message, your Registration Wizard may be trying to connect to the wrong server IP. Check the rbregwiz.log file for 10060 errors.
You will not see users named Reg$User, Reg$In, or Reg$Out contacting the server during the registration process if the Registration Wizard is contacting the wrong IP. Check Tools -> Client Wizard Configuration’s Connection Setup step for the RBS Host Server to see which IP the Wizard is pointed to.
