The Online Installer PlugIn allows your clients to install your RBS Software by clicking a link on your web site. It’s easy, convenient, and lets your clients install their software themselves with just one click. No CD required - No visit to the client’s site required.

The Online Installer PlugIn is a set of files that you can post to your web site. It contains a complete Client installer and some Java that does the installation, and installs the same Client software as the CD-based installer that is included with the Business Kit.

Some Service Providers get confused about the two installers. Some try to use the Online Installer to install from a CD, and some post the CD-based installer to their websites.

The CD-based installer is placed on your Server’s hard drive when you install your RBS Server software using your RBS Server CD. The Online Installer is placed on your Server’s hard drive when you install the Online Installer PlugIn. After you install the Online Installer PlugIn you will find it in the following folder on your hard drive:

C:\Program Files\RBS Server\Web\OnlineInstallerYou’ll need to edit at least one of the files in this folder, (more on that later) then simply upload all the files and subfolders you find in the folder above to a directory on your website called

\onlineinstallerTo make your Online Installer available to clients on your web site, all you have to do is link to it like this:

http://your_web_site.com/onlineinstaller

That’s it! I told you it was easy. Of course, replace your_web_site.com with the URL of your website.

There are a few other files you will want to edit…

There’s a file in your Online Installer folder called index.htm. That’s the main index file for the Installer, and it contains most of the logic needed to install your RBS Client software over the web. It’s OK to edit the colors and some of the basic HTML code, but do not alter anything you don’t fully understand. Never alter any of the Java or JavaScript. It’s best if you can simply use it as provided for you.

The file backup.mdb is the most important file in your Online Installer, and you must edit it for your Online Installer to work. This file contains all the details your clients need to contact your RBS Server and do backups. If you don’t edit it, your Online Installer will not work.
