This article was contributed by S.H., one of our Service Providers. We cannot answer further questions on this topic. This article refers to running the Client on ISA, but it may also help running our Server.
ISA is not one of our products. If this article doesn’t help, we recommend contacting your System Administrator or the vendor for your ISA product. You can also search further through our Knowledge Library for further information on the key words “firewall” and “router” and maybe “passive” and “ports”
Firstly the machine with the RBackup client installed MUST have the Firewall client installed. There is no additional firewall/proxy config required on the client.
ISA Server setup:
1. Open up ISA Management
2. Expand the tree of the server
3. Expand the tree of “Policy Elements”
4. Select “Protocol Definitions”
5. Create a new “Protocol Definition”: - Port = 2774 - Protocol = TCP - Direction = Outbound
6. Create a new secondary connection when asked: - Port Range = 1025 to 65535 - Protocol = TCP - Direction = Outbound
7. Save and finish
8. Now goto “Access Policies”>>”Protocol Rules”
9. Choose “Create a Protocol Rule”
10. Select “Allow” on first screen
11. “Apply this rule to” - Choose “Selected Protocols”
12. Check the protocol you created above.
13. Next, choose “always” for the schedule.
14. The next screen allows this rule to be applied to everyone, specific computers, or specific users/groups…choose and configure appropriately.
15. Finish!
THAT’S IT!! as mentioned, no client config is required if the firewall client is installed on the RBackup client machine.
It’s not recommended to install the Firewall Client onto the ISA box!!
NOTE: Internet Explorer must have “Automatically detect Settings” enabled. The difference is visible in the RBackup client on the “Connection” tab of Preferences, the text at the bottom of the window says connected or not.
Also note that other rules may or may not interfere with the above proposed settings, but when running on near to default it should be fine.
